Endometriosis Compensation Calculator
You could receive up to £224,790 for severe bowel injuries stemming from endometriosis negligence. This is according to the Judicial College Guidelines (JCG), a legal document with guideline compensation figures. Our compensation calculator uses figures from this same document. You can see a few of these figures set out in a table in this section.
However, settlements may be made of compensation for multiple injuries, plus related expenses. Here are some items that may be considered when getting an estimate from our endometriosis compensation calculator:
- How many organs were harmed.
- Overall pain and suffering.
- How this negligence affected your everyday life.
These will be considered under ‘general damages’. However, medical negligence claims may also have a second head of loss. Special damages is financial compensation for losses caused by medical negligence, for example:
- Loss of earnings if you have had to leave or take time off work.
- Medical treatment, including private treatment.
- Prescriptions.
- Transportation to and from relevant medical appointments.
You will need receipts and bank statements to use as evidence when claiming special damages.
Aside from the first, all entries in the table below are taken from the JCG. As the compensation payout you receive could be less or more than these figures, you should use the below table as a guide only.
TYPE OF INJURY | SEVERITY | GUIDELINE COMPENSATION | NOTES |
---|---|---|---|
Multiple Severe Injuries | Severe | Up to £500,000+ | Multiple severe injuries with special damages. |

Can I Claim For Endometriosis Negligence Compensation?
Yes, if you satisfy the eligibility criteria for claiming endometriosis negligence compensation. For medical negligence, this is:
- You were owed a duty of care.
- This duty was breached.
- You suffered harm that would have otherwise been avoided due to this breach.
All healthcare and medical professionals have a duty of care towards patients, meaning they must provide care to the expected standard. This is automatic when a medical professional agrees to provide you with care and treatment. Some ways medical professionals can do this are:
- Checking they are giving the correct medical advice.
- Carrying out or ordering further tests in relevant situations.
-
Listening to patients’ symptoms and taking them seriously.
Negligence can be tricky to understand, but our advisors can help if you get in contact. They can also explain how to use our endometriosis compensation calculator.
What Is Endometriosis?
As defined by the NHS, endometriosis is when cells usually found in the womb begin to grow elsewhere. This is often in areas like the ovaries, pelvis lining and fallopian tubes. Severe cases of endometriosis can affect the bowel and bladder. It can form once a menstruating individual begins their period up and last until menopause.
If untreated, endometriosis cells can spread further throughout the body, such as into the chest.

The Common Endometriosis Symptoms
There are many symptoms associated with endometriosis that can affect everyday life massively. Some of the main symptoms are:
- Pain, specifically in your lower back and stomach where the pelvic area is located.
- Pain when passing bowel movements or emptying your bladder.
- Extremely heavy periods that cause you to bleed through your clothing or menstrual products.
- Severe period pain.
- Pain when having or after sexual intercourse.
- Fatigue.
Some of these symptoms, such as pain when going to the toilet, are more common during the time when you have your period. However, they can occur at any time during your menstrual cycle.
Endometriosis can also cause difficulties for those attempting to conceive naturally, though this varies from case to case. If you have any queries about deciding to claim, don’t hesitate to contact our advisors.
How Could Endometriosis Negligence Occur?
Below are some examples of how endometriosis negligence can occur.
Misdiagnosis
Because endometriosis often presents with chronic pelvic pain and stomach and back pain, endometriosis misdiagnosis can occur. Some common misdiagnoses are:
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Due to endometriosis affecting the bowels and bladder, IBS is often wrongly thought to be the cause of stomach pain.
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): As endometriosis can cause pain during sexual intercourse or when urinating, it is sometimes misdiagnosed as recurring UTIs.
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): PID happens when the pelvis becomes infected, causing similar pain in the pelvic area that can be mistaken from endometriosis.
-
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS): Similar to endometriosis, someone can be diagnosed with both PCOS and endometriosis. However, they differ in that PCOS causes abnormal hormone levels and cysts within the ovaries.
Surgical Errors
Endometriosis is often dismissed before a patient gets surgery to determine if it is present. However, even if surgery goes ahead, endometrial tissue outside of the womb could be mistaken for regular, non-endometrial tissue or scar tissue.
Alternatively, scar tissue could be mistaken for endometriosis in a patient, where it signifies something else.
Delayed Treatment
As endometriosis is often misdiagnosed or misunderstood, many who suffer with the symptoms are often delayed treatment, leading to the endometriosis spreading and symptoms potentially worsening.
Medical professionals who refuse to carry out the relevant tests or dismiss symptoms may be breaching their duty of care towards patients.
All of the above cases are considered endometriosis negligence. If you want to know if your experience could qualify to make a claim, get in touch today.
Why Is Endometriosis Often Misdiagnosed?
As discussed earlier, endometriosis is often mistaken for other conditions due to the fact that its symptoms overlap with these conditions. Additionally, some medical professionals do not carry out the correct tests needed in order to diagnose endometriosis.
The initial first step that should be taken by your GP when endometriosis is suspected is a blood test and an internal examination. You should also be referred to a gynaecologist for further examination.
Further tests include:
- An ultrasound, potentially internal.
- A laparoscopy – a procedure in which a camera enters your stomach through a minor incision. Sometimes, endometriosis can be removed during a laparoscopy.
It can be difficult to know if your misdiagnosed endometriosis is classed as medical negligence. Contact us for additional clarification.
How To Start A Claim For Endometriosis Compensation
You can find out about the time limits and evidence aspects of the claims process in this section.
Time Limits
Under the Limitation Act 1980, there is a 3-year time limit to pursue endometriosis negligence claims. This 3 years begins either:
- On the date of the incident (if relevant).
- On the date you understood medical negligence occurred (for example, when you realised you were misdiagnosed).
The 3 year time limit applies to the majority of medical negligence claims, but there are 2 main exceptions for claimants who cannot manage the process for themselves. In these cases, a litigation friend can manage the claim for medical negligence compensation on their behalf. The exceptions are:
- Children. Those under 18 cannot claim themselves. Therefore, the time limit is paused until their 18th birthday.
- Mental incapacity. Those without the required mental capacity to manage a claim have the time limit suspended. It only starts if this capacity is recovered.
Evidence
When claiming for medical negligence compensation, evidence is particularly crucial to prove the negligence. We recommend gathering:
- Your medical records.
- Correspondence between you and any relevant medical centres.
- The contact details of any witnesses to your treatment.
An independent medical assessment may be required, which a solicitor from our panel will arrange if your claim is eligible. Contact us if you have any further questions about evidence or time limits.
What Our Panel Of Solicitors Can Do For You
Each solicitor from our panel is an expert at negotiating the perfect compensation settlement for your claim. Additionally, each solicitor from our panel will, among other things:
- Explain legal terminology.
- Communicate with all relevant parties.
- Arrange an independent medical assessment.
- Put you in contact with medical professionals such as psychologists.
Moreover, our panel of solicitors take on claims on a No Win No Fee basis via a Conditional Fee Agreement. This means:
- You only pay a success fee (your solicitor’s pay) if your claim is successful.
- This fee is capped at a maximum percentage of 25%.
- You do not pay a success fee if you are not awarded compensation.
- You also don’t pay for your solicitor’s work when the claim commences or as it is ongoing.
Claiming this way can be less stressful, making it a good option for those nervous about the claims process in general.
